The stepping off site for Denver Pride, this 80 acre former cemetary (look for ghost stories) is a popular open green space for locals, including many gays and lesbians, with the downtown city skyline as backdrop. People catch some sunshine out on the lawns, gaze at the Rocky Mountains fom the pavillion, throw frisbees, picnic, jog, or relax with a good book on any nice day throughout the year, but especially in summertime. First Sundays in recent summers have been "Auto-Free Days." The park has a long history as a cruising area for men on foot, and for late night drivers.
The Denver Botanic Gardens are located just beyond the park (1007 York St). Besides their beautiful gardens they present an annual summer concert series at the amphitheater at Chatfield Green (8500 Deer Creek Canyon Rd) in Littleton, with great views of the Colorado foothills.
